Whitestone Report: Estimates of Unscheduled Facility Maintenance
SANTA BARBARA, CA - May
11, 1999 - Unscheduled maintenance is poorly understood despite
its considerable claim on the facility operating budget. A recent
Whitestone survey provides results from a sample of fifteen facilities
and indicated that unscheduled maintenance absorbed an average
44 percent of the overall facility maintenance and repair labor
requirement. The percentage of unscheduled maintenance varied by
building system, with conveyance systems requiring the least (21
percent) and plumbing the most (63 percent). Results of the survey
can be used to refine asset management and budget planning tools.
